Job Summary
The Pharmacy Business Analyst will monitor the Pharmacy’s operating budget. Perform complex accounting and budgeting functions and conducts financial, statistical, and analytical studies. Prepare and assist in the preparation of financial reports and statements according to prescribed guidelines. Design and develop database programs and perform financial analytics. Assist with the 340B program performance and compliance. Position will report to the Director of Business Operations.

This is a split reporting role to both Pharmacy and Finance leadership, based on the fiscal responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs detailed analysis of and implements all functions necessary to support and maintain statistical and financial data for the monthly close, including data quality assurance and suggestions for current process improvements and long-term improvements/advancements.
  • Identifies and strives to find ways to improve the operational efficiency of the pharmacy’s business operations and strengthen revenue.
  • Reviews pharmacy inter-departmental charges monthly for correct cost, and appropriate cost centers.
  • Reconciles issues with outside departments and prepares appropriate analyses for review by pharmacy management.
  • Assists with the 340B Program performance and compliance.
  • Monitors charging and billing practices to ensure compliance and support revenue integrity for the hospital and Specialty Pharmacy.
  • Collects data and develops pricing of new pharmacy programs and services.
  • Evaluates financial impact of pharmacy initiatives and presents impacts to Manager.
  • Performs routine analysis of BCH Specialty pharmacy and helps to identify additional opportunities that continue to build the pharmacy services strategy.
  • Maintains reports for pharmacy trends for inpatient, outpatient, and new service lines, including the examination of cash flow.
  • Updates routinely the pharmacy forecast to help with annual budgeting.
  • Pharmacy reporting and analysis with new ACO relationships and managed care strategy for pharmacy-related expenses and revenue.
  • Schedules regular meetings with Specialty Pharmacy personnel to discuss goals and ongoing procedures.
  • Prepares various financial transactions, reports, and analyses related to the pharmacy, which may include: operating budget, cash flow, intercompany activity, financial analytics, and other sub-ledger activity and schedules.
  • Prepares, analyzes, and distributes regularly scheduled and ad-hoc financial reports.
  • Interprets, reviews, summarizes, and presents financial results, identifying drivers and associated impact, highlighting areas of concern and significant variances for the hospital and Specialty Pharmacy.
  • Supports the development and preparation of the hospital and Specialty Pharmacy’s annual operating budget, including preparation, completion, and consolidation of annual budget templates, reviewing budget submissions for accuracy and appropriateness, working with managers to develop budgets and resolve issues with submitted information, and preparing analyses and reports for management.
  • Staffs pharmacy/finance-related Committees, as required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or a related field. Master’s Degree preferred
  • 3 years of related experience. Pharmacy experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Analytical skills necessary to resolve problems requiring the use of scientific, mathematical, or technical principles and indepth, experience-based crossfunctional knowledge and support from leaders and team.
  • The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and provide empathy in difficult personal situations.
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft applications, which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, and experience with other accounting applications.
