Company Profile

Black River Memorial Hospital, Inc

Company Overview

Nestled in the hills of Black River Falls, in western Wisconsin, Black River Memorial Hospital is a nonprofit
community hospital committed to serving the primary health care needs of the local community of 20,554 within Jackson County. BRMH’s main health care services include primary care clinic with behavioral health services, acute emergency and urgent care, inpatient, outpatient, home-based health, rehabilitation, and community wellness education services. From a community need perspective, emergency care, inpatient and outpatient services are the most important acute care services. All other services provide key transitional and wellness education, enabling patients and family to achieve their best health status, close to home. BRMH’s workforce provides direct patient care services in the clinic, hospital setting and at home; outpatient direct and indirect care services on-campus in imaging, lab and procedural areas; community direct care and educational services in partnership with caretakers, family members, volunteers and partners in patient homes; and transitional and wellness services through self-care education and health promotion.

Company History

The roots of BRMH date back to 1917, when it was originally founded as Black River Community Hospital; a local full-service hospital with a mission to provide high quality neighborhood health care, while saving hours of travel for most health care services. The hospital provides full-service primary care services, and works in partnership with larger regional facilities when tertiary care services are needed. Through the vision of Dr. Eugene Krohn, in partnership with the local community, the hospital was established as a local center of health care.

As health care services have shifted to outpatient and community health services, BRMH saw a strategic opportunity to reduce licensed inpatient beds from 76 to 25, while creating valuable facility space for outpatient service growth. In 2008, BRMH completed an extensive 69,000 square foot expansion, and a major remodeling project of 44,000 square feet to better serve inpatients and outpatients into the future, while becoming certified as a Critical Access Hospital (CAH). From the beginning, BRMH has been a trusted community resource, caring for neighbors through local services, education and wellness events. The expansion enabled the facility to present a modern and welcoming first impression to new patients, while supporting high levels of service efficiency.
